Peru's lime industry is experiencing a significant upward trajectory, fueled by increasing international demand and competitive pricing.
Over the past two years, the country has strengthened its position as a key player in the citrus export market, with volumes and values reflecting steady growth.
🔹 Export Performance: In 2023, Peru exported $49.0 million worth of limes, with shipments totaling 45.1 million kg. This momentum accelerated in 2024, with exports reaching $60.5 million and 54.7 million kg—a 23% increase in revenue year-over-year.
🔹 Price Stability: Despite market fluctuations, Peruvian lime prices have remained relatively stable. The average price per kg stood at $1.09 in 2023 and slightly increased to $1.10 in 2024. February 2023 saw a price of $1.05/kg, while the same month in 2024 recorded a slight rise to $1.13/kg, reflecting favorable market conditions.
🔹 Peak Export Periods: The most active months for lime exports were the first quarter and mid-year. In January 2024, shipments reached $7.78 million, up from $5.38 million in 2023. A similar trend followed in March, with $8.79 million exported in 2024, compared to $7.30 million the previous year.
🔹 Early 2025 Trends: The first two months of 2025 indicate continued expansion, with exports totaling $14.8 million. January alone recorded $8.73 million, signaling sustained global interest in Peruvian limes.
The growing preference for Peruvian limes in global markets underscores the sector’s resilience and potential for further growth. As demand increases, Peru's ability to maintain quality and competitive pricing will be key to sustaining its upward trajectory in the citrus industry.
